Inquiries mean people really are paying attention!

When I posted the my ad for proofreading/writing/editing services yesterday, on virtually every local classifieds site I point my mouse to, I, admittedly, wasn’t actually expecting much of a response. But, I checked my email this afternoon, and lo and behold, there was an inquiry! I was overjoyed to see that my ad generated interested in someone! Afterall, I can’t exactly start a business as an independent writing consultant without any clientele. I responded with more information about what I can offer, and how pricing would be decided. I (im)patiently await a response, hoping for an emphatic “You’re hired!”

Meanwhile, I have spent a good chunk of my day scouring Young Fabulous and Self-Employed to figure out exactly how to get this consulting business going. I have contacted a few local independent newspapers to see if there are any writing/editing opportunities available. I am also contemplating marketing my services to local non-profits that have piqued my interest. There are so many ideas running through my head right now, the day sadly lacks the hours to accommodate. I found a great deal on business cards at VistaPrint. 250 business cards for the cost of shipping. Granted, you can’t edit the colors or fonts, but I was lucky enough to find a color scheme and design that makes me happy.

Am I jumping the gun? Perhaps, but I believe it is better to be overprepared than scrambling. If this person accepts my services, I would have my first client, and I think that totally warrants an order for business cards. I’m excited. All I can think about is writing and getting my work out there to the starving public. Today has been a good day! 🙂
